Our mission is to promote access to technology and economic opportunity for individuals with disabilities in Washington State. Washington Access Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI).

John Moffitt Assistive Technology Grants

Are you a high school senior and graduating in June 2012? Do you need adaptive technologies...?

To meet post high school goals
For college
For work
To live independently

If so, you need to know about the Department of Services for the Blind’s John Moffitt Assistive Technology Grants. These grants are designed to promote economic independence and civic responsibility by helping YOU pay for the technologies you need to succeed at school, at work, or in your home and community.

Grant amounts of up to $9,700 available. Application deadline: May 31, 2012. Visit our page on the John Moffitt AT Grants for more information and to download the application.

Small Busincess Planning Webinar Series

Are you an entrepreneur with a disability who needs a business loan for your small business? Need help writing your business plan? Then sign up for the Access Fund's free, accessible web-based meetings! Next session begins Tuesday, June 5th. Classes are from 12:00pm-1:30pm every Tuesday for 7 weeks.

Client Spotlight: Meet Vena Ward

They told her it was just too risky to fund a degree in chemical engineering because people with low-vision were unlikely to succeed in that field. Meet Vena Ward. Having connected with her Vocational Rehabilitation agency in Mississippi, Vena had plenty of experience with CCTVs (powerful desktop magnifiers) and handheld magnifiers. Unfortunately, when Vena moved on to college, her VR agency was unwilling to pay for the costly items once they found out her chosen field of study: chemical engineering. VR pulled her funding and Vena was on her own.

Despite the barriers she's faced, Vena has been successfully employed as a nuclear engineer since 2005 (full-time since 2008) with the Department of Defense.
